The Elementary Education program provides state-of-the-art curriculum paired with hands-on experiences and opportunities to engage in real classrooms. All Elementary Education majors at Flagler College are trained to give instruction in elementary areas including reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies and science.

Required General Education Courses (51 Hours)
Students entering with an Associate of Arts (AA) degree are exempt from the general education requirements, with the exception of specified courses for their major. Creative Expression
- Choose a Category A course (See General Education Program and Courses in catalog.) Credits: 3
- EEL 365 - Elementary Methods in the Arts Credits: 3 (Catagory B) This course is required for all Elementary Education majors, including those with an AA degree.

Elective Courses (At Least 13 Hours)
To meet the minimum 120-hour graduation requirement, Elementary Education majors must take at least 13 hours of electives. Students are encouraged to consult with their academic advisors regarding relevant elective course selections. Recommended are courses that provide or reinforce knowledge and skills that will contribute to becoming an effective teacher. Also, note that careful selection of elective courses can lead to a minor (e.g. Biology, Coastal Environmental Science, Mathematics, Psychology, Sociology), making Elementary Education majors more marketable. Note
Some courses require admission to the Education Department and/or other prerequisites. Also, some courses are offered only in fall/spring or even/odd semesters. This information can be found by accessing individual course descriptions. |
