EDD 349 - Foundations of Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Prerequisite(s): EDU 202 , ASL 201 , and ASL 202  
Corequisite(s): EDD 350  and EDD 049

 
A study of the foundations of deaf education, including the sociocultural, historical, philosophical, legal, and ethical forces unique to the field. Students will explore the laws and regulations that pertain to the education of students who are deaf and hard of hearing (DHH), address philosophical bias in educational decision-making, identify the roles and responsibilities of teachers and support personnel, explore resources to support families of children who are DHH and explore collaborative opportunities among the Deaf community, professional networks, and families of children who are DHH.

This course addresses state and national certification standards required for students enrolled in the undergraduate Deaf Education Program.
